His Energy Changes Lives by Vince La Porta

I had trouble deciding which way to take this piece, and ended up starting over this morning fueled by a sunrise over the mountains surrounding Cuernavaca, Mexico while my fiance slept peacefully in its glow. I chose to write about energy.

I didn’t know Ucal until he gave me a ride home. Don’t get me wrong, I knew him on the pitch for who he was as a member of a team, but it wasn’t until he spoke directly to me that I felt it.

“How are you, Vince?”

Humans ask this question every day. Millions inquire, millions respond. Millions succumb to the process of small talk:
“Hey, how are you?”
“A’m good, -ow are you?”
“Good.”
Conversation over.
They don’t even enunciated properly.

I didn’t know Ucal until he gave me a ride home and upon entering the front seat after a match Ucal said, “How are you, Vince?” At that moment I knew Ucal was one in a million. I felt it.

Energy is a baffling phenomenon. Some say energy was converted into matter and the creation of the universe began. Others say energy is not and never has been tangible. Some say energy can be harnessed through proper focus and even manipulated. Others just don’t conclude anything about energy and only read that it serves to hold atoms together or create waves of light. Some collect it from the sun or the natural flow of water. Others collect it and package it into terminals to fuel our superfluous gadgets. No matter what your relationship with energy, it is undeniable fact that Ucal possesses it.

Such a simple question asked by millions of humans every day in a hundred languages, but when Ucal asks you answer from the heart. His energy creates peace of mind and comfort in disclosure. His energy is pure, honest, kind, and divine. It emanates from his eyes, his brow, the openness of his soul, and the glisten of his smile. He fuels greatness, empowers youth, inspires love, nullifies anger, and accepts negativity and evil for he knows he can convert it. He makes us all malleable. This is divinity. Ucal brings out the best versions of ourselves, and rather than harnessing his energy for himself, he shares it endlessly.

His energy changes lives. His secret: faith in everyone’s ability to be just like him.

I try and succeed daily, thank you Ucal for having faith in me, in us.
